Synopsis/Details
Alyson was an up-and-coming artist in her 20s/30s, however, alcohol and prescription drugs caused her to spiral out of control, taking a toll on her mental health as well. Now sober and in her 40s, she rents a cabin in the Colorado mountains to ‘find’ herself again and paint. While settling in, Alyson finds a faded Polaroid picture of a woman, whose image is ghostly in appearance. Alyson is drawn to the picture and uses it as inspiration for a painting when she begins hearing unexplained knocking throughout the cabin. One day, she follows the noise to the attic crawl space and is startled by a racoon. Alyson falls backwards and hurts her elbow. Later, Alyson calls the local handyman, “Gib” (John Gibson), to set a trap for the animal. As a thank you, Alyson offers to make him dinner. He agrees and that night brings an ace bandage and Tylenol for her elbow, and a bottle of wine for dinner. Alyson explains she is sober but appreciates his thoughtfulness. During dinner, Gib drinks the bottle of wine. Afterwards, they hear knocking. Gib investigates, finding that it is only air trapped in the basement pipes. He fixes it, but Alyson continues to hear unexplained knocking when she is alone, which drives her back to drinking. The next day, Gib returns to check on the trap in the attic. He detects that Alyson is hungover. When she asks if he enjoyed the previous night’s dinner, Gib denies ever being there. Alyson insists that he was and searches for remnants of their dinner… She finds nothing. Alyson kicks Gib out, but the constant knocking, hellish nightmares and strange happenings intensify. She begins to think she may be losing her mind again, or is Gib gaslighting her? The answer may not be what she was expecting… PITCH: Only one location, Lead is a 40-something broken/damaged female, supporting roles for 1 male and 3 Females and one male extra. Can easily be filmed for an ultra low-budget union agreement.
