Rat Trap

Police Constable Evelyn Cole attends a noise complaint at a block of flats. Upon arriving, three men attempt to kill her, but she manages to evade death and escape. She finds herself trapped on the top floor and badly wounded. Her calls for help are not responded to and she realises she’s all alone. Marco, the man charged with organising Evelyn’s murder brings in a number of men to search every flat and find Evelyn. It’s revealed that a police officer in dispatch is involved with the conspiracy and was the man who sent Evelyn to the building in the first place. Evelyn takes shelter in an abandoned flat, but then has to flee when one of Marco’s men finds her. She kills him and hides in another home, hoping to use the phone, but the young boy who offered to help locks her in the living room and calls for Marco. Evelyn is able to escape via the balcony, dropping down to the one beneath. There she meets single mother Stacey who helps bandage her wound and allows her to use the phone to call for help. Evelyn calls her colleague Jason, who agrees to send backup as soon as possible. It’s not long before one of Marco’s men are knocking on the door. Evelyn changes out of her uniform and claims to be Stacey’s sister, but the ruse is discovered. Evelyn must run again, this time finding help with ex-police office Angus offering to keep her safe in his home. His wife however is not happy to be involved and suggests they inform Marco to protect themselves. Angus refuses and while he’s talking to Evelyn, his wife secretly leaves. When Angus realises his wife is missing, he comes to the conclusion she has gone to Marco and hides Evelyn behind the panel of the bathtub. It’s not long before Marco and his men arrive at Angus’ flat demanding to know where Evelyn is, but Angus refuses to talk despite a brutal beating. They eventually leave and Evelyn climbs out from under the bathtub to find an unconscious Angus lying in his crying wife’s arms. Evelyn attempts to descend the flight of stairs again, but must take refuge in another resident’s home. This time the seemingly kind Malcolm proves to be a sexual predator and drugs Evelyn with the intention of raping her. During her drug induced coma Evelyn suffers flashbacks and it is revealed her ex-partner Sergeant Roy Mackey is currently in prison because Evelyn witnessed him being paid off by Marco. She refused to be corrupted and is now due to testify. Evelyn comes to before Malcolm can harm her and she overpowers him. Evelyn uses Malcolm’s mobile to call Jason again to find out where her backup is. He says he’s working on it, but asks what flat number she is currently in. She doesn’t understand why that information is necessary and suspects Jason is also involved in the conspiracy and so hangs up. She realises her only other option for help is her brother James, but the mobile runs out of battery and Malcolm refuses to help. When one of Marco’s men visits Malcolm’s flat, he hears cries of help from the resident and breaks the door down. Evelyn attacks him and uses him as a hostage with the hope of leaving the block of flats. Marco and his men allow Evelyn to descend the stairs threatening them with a knife at her hostage’s throat. However when she reaches the bottom she finds the main doors are locked and there is no escape. Evelyn is taken back to the flat she started in, where they intend to kill her again. A surprise attack by a teenager Marco hired to find Evelyn and then reneged on the deal results in several of his men shot dead and he abandons Evelyn to track down the retreating boy. Evelyn takes advantage of the situation to overpower the one man left to guard her and she is able to use his mobile phone to call James. She informs him where she is and to send help. He promises to do so having already visited the police station to find out where she was, having not returned home. Evelyn uses her last ounce of strength to take out the last two of Marco’s men, but he chases her intent on completing the job himself. Evelyn finally exits the building, but Marco catches up to her and is ready to kill her with a machete. She stabs him in the foot and takes the machete from him. Armed officers arrive just in time to stop her killing him. Marco is arrested and Evelyn is helped into the back of an ambulance with a promise from her superior that a full investigation into corruption will be conducted. Meanwhile, Roy is murdered in prison by one of the other inmates to keep him from talking.
