Synopsis/Details
Scott arrives home with his shopping. He speaks to his speech-activated assistant device, SAMi, requesting the lights be switched on and the heating increased. As he unpacks his shopping he chats to SAMi about his day. He asks her to call Clare, but SAMi claims there is no number listed. Scott searches through his phone to find the number has been deleted again.
Scott finds Clare’s number written down and calls her to find she is in tears, claiming he text her saying he doesn’t want to see her again. Scott says he sent no such text and that it must have been a prank. He tells Clare he still wants to see her and wants her to come over for dinner. She agrees.
When Clare arrives, Scott asks SAMi to play romantic music, but she plays heavy metal instead. He has trouble getting her to comply and Clare suggests he upgrade to the new model to avoid more problems. She offers to get it for his birthday. Clare touches SAMi and receives a minor electric shock.
Later they are having dinner and Scott gives Clare a gift, a key to his apartment. He tells her she can come and go as she pleases now. Scott then notices his phone battery has dropped down to zero and needs charging. He plugs it in, but then hears music coming from the bedroom. He asks SAMi to turn it off, but she won’t. He heads into the bedroom to switch it off manually. While gone, his phone rings and Clare answers it. Scott hears a loud bang and rushes back to Clare to find her on the floor, a large wound in the side of her head and an exploded phone near her.
Scott drops to his knees trying to revive Clare, but she won’t wake up. Scott shouts for SAMi to call for an ambulance, but SAMi remains silent.
