Synopsis/Details
Seven strangers of vastly different backgrounds are lured onto an elevator under false pretenses and are almost immediately stuck inside together when the mechanical lift is hacked, leaving them at the mercy of a villain who speaks to them through the speaker - which unnervingly fills the space with smooth jazz elevator tunes between his conversations - and demands to be referred to as their “God”. A disturbing, Bible quoting lunatic, the man insists his captives complete one task a day for him, each in direct conflict with the seven deadly sins, as his way of ensuring they all go to hell. Possibly alt-right motivated, each day’s task is more twisted than the last, as these seemingly innocent individuals are revealed to have been chosen primarily for purposes which fit the hateful political rhetoric spewed by an unhealthy subsection of today’s society. Delving into some pretty important topics regarding race, religion, LGBT rights and more, the group gradually learns more about each other, although it doesn’t necessarily bring them all that much closer together. As the days pass, a secret is slipped that reveals one among them was working in collusion with their captor, sending the entire group into a spiral of distrust and splintering any hope of cooperation. Never completely giving up hope, attempts are made to evade detection by the watchful eye of the security camera and signal for help, however each attempt not only ends in failure, but also takes a physical toll on each member in more ways than one. Limbs are lost, minds are manipulated and ultimately only a few of them are able to make it out with their lives. As for the dark soul responsible for it all though… he appears to escape, able to wreak havoc another day.
