Dr. Mary Winters is a psychiatrist who has excelled at academics and has done everything by the book until now. After listening to her patient's problems and advising them to think "My life, my way" Mary begins to take risks in her own life, some of which are promiscuous and out of character given her prudish relationship with her boyfriend, a public defender named Royce.
With each step of the way, Mary pushes the envelope a bit further with each new personal adventure, all the while escalating in her promiscuity. At first, her risks are merely voyeuristic as she watches a live internet feed of a patient mimicking fellatio on a beer bottle at a local cantina. That voyeurism escalates when she watches the same patient in person having sex in an alleyway behind the cantina.
Spurred by that patient's carefree attitude towards sex and pleasure, Mary joins a dating app catering to those who want to hook up for sex. Mary's dating profile evolves from spinster cat lady to mimicking fellatio on a beer bottle similar to her patient and eventually to a pic that's full frontal nudity.
The adventure begins to crest when she meets a stranger through the dating app for a hook up at a local dive bar. Another patient of Mary's (and a friend of Royce) recognizes Mary but doesn't confront her. The hook up with the stranger goes south when Mary resists his advances in a drunken stupor. The man forces himself on Mary while roughing her up as well.
While Mary and Royce have remained celibate, Royce is now suspecting that there may be another side to Mary when he sees her disheveled and hung over after the fact. Suspicions rise further when Mary's sister Avery finds her profile on the dating app which happens to appear on her husband's phone.
When confronted with the profile that has been posted under the fake name "Cheyenne", Mary vehemently denies it's her despite the uncanny resemblance. Avery states that she is determined to get to the bottom of it all and even suggests to Mary that it might be crude joke emanating from one of Mary's unbalanced patients.
Mary's thrilled by the promiscuity and the risks she is taking that could end her medical career, yet after each walk on the wild side she quickly runs to either a Catholic church to confess her sins or to her local Pastor who only knows Mary as an active volunteer, a generous giver and a devout Christian.
In a chance encounter, the patient who recognized Mary on her "date" bumps into her at the local cantina where they engage in conversation and a significant number of drinks. Their evening together culminates in a harmless "sleepover" due to the effects of the alcohol.
The pilot episode ends with a solid cliffhanger when a detective shows up at Mary's office with an unseen photo wanting to ask her questions.
