Synopsis/Details
Working as a kitchen cleaner at a fast food restaurant socially anxious Lewis escapes from dreary reality through the colourful games on his mobile phone. During his break an ad appears for a new game called Quest Adventurers drawn in by the female character on the ad Lewis downloads the app and immediately finds the character from the ad, named Iris Phoenix, he selects Iris as his ‘companion’. He plays the game giving it all his spare time and even pays for the upgrades. After playing it until the early hours of the morning the app asks if he’d like to update, Lewis presses yes but the update fails, Lewis swipes away and continues playing until he gets a message from Iris, pleading for him not to update the app.Thinking that it might be the lack of sleep Lewis puts the phone away and goes to bed. Lewis wakes up to discover that the app has frequently failed to update and he has new messages from Iris insisting that her name is actually Kate and she once downloaded the app. Convinced he’s being catfished Lewis removes the sim card and battery and throws them away. The next day at work Lewis comes across a newspaper and discovers an article about a missing student, Lewis recognises her, as one of the other playable characters in Quest Adventurers. Lewis rushes home retrieves his phone and sim and starts messaging Iris (Kate) begging for her to forgive him and asking how he could help. There’s no response. Lewis only gets calls from his manager, he ignores them. As he waits the app begins to update, unable to prevent it Lewis hesitates before he opens the upgrades menu. We cut to Lewis’ manager, Barry as he again calls Lewis but only gets voicemail. As he’s about to put his phone away he gets an invitation from Lewis for Quest Adventurers, Barry opens the app and see’s Lewis as a character standing alongside Iris (Kate).

The Writer: Patrick Foster

Freelance scriptwriter based in Manchester, UK. I've worked on various freelance independent productions working as an editor, videographer and general assistant. In what little spare time I have I try writing scripts both short and feature films. Hoping to eventually have the funds and network to make one myself. Some of the scripts that I'm sharing have already been picked up directors and producers but unfortunately for various reasons the production was put on indefinite hiatus and now I've decided put these scripts on the public domain. Please note scripts that are samples only are Not part of the public domain. I hope you enjoy them and I would appreciate any feedback. Go to bio
