Synopsis/Details
In early 1940, Gunnar, a young Scottish fisherman on the remote Shetland Islands, crosses paths with a violent smuggler who nearly got him killed when he was a child and has returned to spill the secret that Gunnar’s father, who supposedly died twenty-two years ago, is actually still alive. With his deployment into WWII quickly upcoming, and against his siblings’ advice, Gunnar sets out to find their father. He follows a trail to a London jazz club used by smugglers and makes friends with young jazz musicians and party girl Charlotte, whose lives are all turned upside down by the war. His quest to find his father ruffles the wrong feathers and when someone he loves turns up dead at an event where his father was seen, Gunnar takes on a dangerous job thru Europe in order to find him. Gunnar is soon immersed in a powerplay between splintering factions of an international crime syndicate. Suspenseful and action-packed, THE SHETLANDER explores a tumultuous time and place thru the eyes of a conflicted hero whose search for truth and identity will find him on a collision course with history.
