Synopsis/Details
Based on a true story. The Thunderbolt is an action/comedy adventure with chases, shoot-outs and cross dressing. It culminates in a climax that only adds to the mystery surrounding the legend of The Thunderbolt. Set in 19th century Australia, it's the story of bushranger Fred Ward, who with co-convict Fred Britten, known as Britts, escapes from prison on Cockatoo Island, with the help of Ward's beautiful but ill-fated, half-caste Aboriginal wife, Mary. The pair head for the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, where their bushranging careers take off, and where Ward picks up the nickname 'THE THUNDERBOLT' But despite his criminal lifestyle, the charismatic- and strangely principled bushranger- gains public support and is admired by everyone except relentless prison warden Sergeant Doyle, who is determined to pursue him until the very end...
