Synopsis/Details
I have decided to include the story below in its entirety (minus the intricate details) as the script is only 3 pages long. The script is heartfelt, contained, and emotional in its childhood innocence and realism. If you want to get involved with the project, please reach out.
This three-page British set script is a concise yet emotional and light story about a young boy seeking to brighten his Grandad’s mood before an operation. Zac (7) waits beside Mike (his grandad) in a hospital bed. Zac is unsure how to feel as this is the first time he has dealt with the possibility that a loved one may not be around forever. With three minutes to go until Mike is wheeled off to the surgery room, the pair sits in awkward silence. Zac twists the end of the bedsheets while looking at Mike’s anxious face. Zac decides he needs to do something to help brighten the mood. He leaves the bed and stretches high on his tiptoes to peek at the contents of a desk. He finds a box of blue medical latex gloves. He walks to his grandad and blows into the glove, inflating it like a balloon. With the help of a black marker and a few knots, the glove becomes an octopus named 'Arty The Octopus'. Zac gifts the balloon to Mike, who thanks him dearly and holds the octopus tight to his chest as he is wheeled off for an operation.
