Synopsis/Details
We open on KYLE, 20s, in the wilderness watching a rabbit. It gets taken and eaten by something - a SASQUATCH – but before Kyle can leave something takes him too! We cut to a film office where KATE is pitching the relaunch of her father’s monster-hunting show to FRANCIS. She refuses to fake any footage and Francis walks away – he’s not interested. HECTOR, Kyle’s brother, returns to a ranger station in the mountains. He tells PETER, 50s, that they’ve got to keep searching. Peter locks up. There’s a storm coming in. It’s over. Back home, Hector sees an old repeat of Kate’s dad’s show and puts Kyle's missing status on a message board. Meanwhile, Kate is facing eviction. As she goes through her stuff she finds a map her father must have hidden. Then she gets a notification of Hector's post. She tries again to get backing from the producer but this time, the producer's assistant TRISTAN steps up and says he’ll go with her, even pay for the trip, and make a documentary about the search. It’s either a rescue story or a bunch of lunatics in the wood. Francis agrees. Kate and Tristan meet up with Hector and two others, MEG and PENNY, and the search begins despite the incoming storm and no one knowing they are out there. Turns out this area is where Kate almost died and where her dad went missing years ago. They encounter a bear - Hector scares it off but Tristan doesn’t do anything to help. Meanwhile, Peter finds their truck. That night, Kate tells Tristan the story of the Windigo. The next day they find a moose carcass and that evening argue about whether to get more footage, follow Kate’s dad’s map, or Kyle's planned route. Then ALBI and Peter appear and tell them to head home. A grizzly appears and roars at them, but mid roar, it’s torn apart by something else! The group scatters in fear. They are split up, and Albi hears Tristan calling for help – he follows the voice, only to find the Windigo! As Peter finds the others, a Sasquatch watches Kate fix Hector’s dislocated shoulder. An avalanche traps the others in a cave, which is decorated with a prehistoric drawings of monsters. While escaping the avalanche Penny trips and impales herself on an old arrowhead. Kate and Hector make camp, but Kate sees something and gives chase. It evades her and Hector. As the others see to Penny and dig themselves out, Kate follows her father’s map to a location she thinks Kyle was heading for. They find a camera but before they can watch the footage spot a Sasquatch family and then the Hectors find Kyle’s dead body, only to be killed by the Windigo. Kate arrives to see the Windigo feeding and transforming into something before it leaves. Kate finds the others and Peter reveals he has been guarding the Sasquatch but knows nothing of the Windigo. They find Albi’s body in the cave and decide to leave. The Windigo attacks but they wound it. Peter tells Kate to get the others out – he has to guard the Sasquatch. But they decide they need footage of the monsters and go and find Peter. They find the Sasquatch and get their footage. Peter takes Kate out to meet them, telling her how her father died. But then the Windigo attacks. The male Sasquatch battles it as the humans join in. The Sasquatch flees, the humans wound the Windigo and it grabs Penny and takes off. Kate destroys Tristan’s footage and she and Peter follow Meg who’s gone after Penny. Tristan heads towards the Sasquatch cave to get other footage. Penny almost escapes but is killed by the Windigo, Meg failing to save her, though Meg discovers it is afraid of fire. As they trail the Windigo Tristan screams – the Sasquatch is after him! The Windigo takes off after the Sasquatch and attacks. Kate and Peter join the fight, and Tristan kills Peter to get his footage. The Sasquatch kills Tristan. The Windigo chases Kate who leads it into a trap prepared by Meg. They burn it to death, but it makes a last lunge – and the Sasquatch finishes it off. Kate and Meg escape the woods. Kate decides she is going to take over Peter’s duty and watch over the Sasquatch, knowing it’s what her father would’ve done. Then we cut to a living Tristan in the wilderness as he eats Albi’s body to survive, turning himself into a Windigo.
