Synopsis/Details
Bound and gagged, 12-year-old Monica Rothmore awakens in the back of a van. The next thing she remembers is walking down the street covered in her abductor's blood. At least, that's the story she told everyone. Monica hears a voice. A voice that can spill the deepest, darkest secrets of strangers. A voice that can somehow help her cheat death. A voice that asks her to let it in. Now an adult, Monica remembers what happened to her abductor when she let the voice in. She worries about what it means for her. Was it solely the voice's work, or was it down to a darkness lurking inside her? While near-invincibility and vicarious omnipotence have their uses, she swears never again to use the full power the voice can grant - no matter how much it pushes. However, when a sadistic murderer abducts one of the few people Monica cares for, and circumstances align to paint her as the perpetrator, Monica is left with a choice: let her cousin die, or let the voice back in.
