Synopsis/Details
Emily is 16 years old living with her abusive Step-father in a cheap motel room. When she's not at school, she spends her time drawing or hiding in the bathroom when her Step-father returns home drunk and angry. Ryan has moved into a nearby motel room and catches the eye of Emily as he repairs his car. At first she is frightened of this stranger, but soon becomes curious about him. Ryan has demons of his own spending his nights robbing convenience stores to keep him going and longing for his lost girlfriend. After her bags breaks exiting the school bus, Emily makes her way through the motel car park struggling to keep the bag on her shoulder. Ryan sees her having trouble and offers to fix it for her by taping the strap. Emily is taken aback by this kindness and sees a friend in Ryan. Later that night Ryan returns home from robbing a convenience store to find Emily sat outside his motel room. Her eye is bruised and she is soaking wet from the rain. She wraps her arms around him. Ryan suspects her Step-father is responsible for her injuries and so he allows her to stay in his room. As Ryan sleeps Emily looks around his room and opens a dresser drawer to find cash and a gun. The next morning, Ryan wakes to find Emily gone. He discovers a hairband on the bed and takes it over to her motel room. Before he can knock on the door a gunshot echoes from inside the room. Ryan bursts in to find Emily holding his gun, the barrel still smoking. He looks down to where the gun is aimed and is shocked to see Emily's Step-father lying dead on the floor, his chest covered in blood. Ryan takes the gun from Emily and escorts her from the room closing the door behind them. Ryan loads up his car with a duffel bag and climbs in the driver's side. Emily sits in the passenger seat. She smiles at Ryan, he smiles back. Ryan starts the car and they drive off.
