Synopsis/Details
Bobby Bumstead, a recently fired talent agent in his early 60's, stumbles upon an extremely musically talented young man in the run down apartment building he moves into. Bobby was treated unfairly by his boss, Jerry. Jerry seems to really have it out for Bobby. When he is fired from his job, Bobby takes his bag and settles into a rundown apartment building in the rougher, poorer part of town. There, as he tries to settle in, he hears the sound of amazing guitar playing along with a voice that belongs on the radio.
Johnny Goodberry, a comical teenage rebel with a heart of gold, plays the guitar as meticulously as he escapes school bullies and sings as beautiful as he treats the unfortunate and innocent. He is convinced by Bobby to go to the agency with him, but Jerry won't even see them. Undiscouraged, the two come up with the idea to try to make it to the next American Artist audition. With help from some unlikely heroes; Bobby and Johnny are off, in a questionable vehicle, on a whacky trip where they have to play their way across the country. They meet some crazy, unforgettable characters along the way. They run into the most insane problems all the way from Bobby's ex-boss trying to stop them from making to the show; all the way down to bikers fighting, crashing rodeo concerts and some questionable nursing home antics. Zipping though states, from California to Atlanta, Georgia, hoping the ride stays together and they can find another gig to keep that ride rolling.
They make it to the audition with a little help from a church choir bus full of gospel singers, only to have Jerry stop them at the door. With only minutes left until the end of the auditions; Johnny is given the choice to sign with Jerry and have his dreams come true or say no and stick with his close buddy never seeing his dreams come to light. At the last minute something special happens that will have even the toughest of men/women blaming their sinuses or onions in the room from all the tears falling from their eyes.
