A Dark Comedy that could be considered "Dr. Strangelove for Voters"!
"None of the Above" is a story about campaign managers who struggle to keep their candidate afloat after an adored sports hero joins the race and cynical voters begin to flock to a common-sense nobody who can't even afford campaign advertising. Meanwhile, backstage powerbrokers put the test to whether they, or politicians, or citizens, actually control the whole darned show!
Here's what's unique about this story:
First of all, it's not a simple Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan rom-com with a campaign backdrop. Secondly, it doesn't pick Right/Left-wing sides.
Here, while the two solitudes comically tear themselves apart, more nefarious forces are at play. The slapstick evolves into one of the most uncomfortable endings ever -- fashioned somewhat after the German constitutional crisis in 1933, but with a twist. While the story is set in the U.K., unfortunately it's plausible in any Western electoral system.
