Synopsis/Details
Mitch, a lonely widower, is scheduled to move out of his long-time house and into a condo when he finds an old wool hat his late wife knitted for him years ago. When he puts it on, he discovers that the hat allows him to travel back in time to when she was alive.
Fearful that the hat won't work away from the house, Mitch tells Alan (his son) to cancel the sale of the house and his move to the condo. Alan tells him that he can't do that as he will almost certainly be sued for breach of contract. Mitch tells him that the hat is worth any price. Alan makes his father agree to take the hat on a test drive the next day to see if it works elsewhere before taking any action.
Unable to sleep that night, Mitch puts the hat on again. He finds himself in a rest stop between Heaven and Earth. The ghostly form of his wife is there. She tells him to please stop using the hat. It turns out that Mitch is unknowingly depriving his younger self of the memories the older Mitch is getting the chance to live again. Mitch reluctantly agrees to give the hat to charity,
At the condo complex, Mitch meets a lovely widow who is also very lonely. They get together for tea and wherever the rest of their lives takes them.
