Synopsis/Details
Matt is a successful, permanently stoned freelance artist. For 15 years he has been living happily with his boyfriend Paul and his dog Mylo, secluded in a huge apartment far away from the big loud city.
He´s full of energy, thoughts and ambitions. Often alone with himself and Mylo, he dives into his spiritual world of meditation, psychedelics, fantasies and thoughts, until one day he´s been told that a deceased woman keeps appearing at his big mirror, looking for something, visiting someone.
Driven by his strong curiosity and great interest in paranormal phenomena, Matt tries to get in contact with this ghostly figure - successfully. It turns out that the lady in his mirror was looking for him. She needs him, because the world is threatened by evil forces and only Matt can defeat them and restore the balance between the universes.
Together with his disbelieving partner Paul, his diplomatic best friend Liz and the ever faithful Mylo, all four of them travel to an unknown world of darkness, mysticism and surreality.
In search of the missing gatekeeper, the three begin to change. Relationships change, tests are imminent. Not only the psyche of all is put to the test, but also the friendship and the togetherness of the friends. They dive into unseen worlds, intangible, beautiful, frightening, unexplainable scenarios. They face dangers, monsters, themselves and their deepest fears.
Matt has to ask himself one question: “Who am I?” Not brave at least, but he has to be now, not only to save the world, but also to bring back unharmed the people he has persuaded to come along. Nothing is as Matt thought. Nothing is as it seems. A game of confrontation with his own reality.
A journey of self-recognition, reflection, smoking and fighting, love, disappointment and growth starts. A journey that Matt has to take, but it´s unclear whether he will ever return to the way he once was. Whether he´ll ever return to his own world, so intact, so clouded, so own. BELEAF is a journey into a fantastic world. A surreal, scary world. A world full of danger, infinite beauty and change.
BELEAF is a film about friendship, dedication, trust, faith and courage. BELEAF is a metaphor for all the thoughts and emotions that we carry in us every day. Questions we ask ourselves again and again. Tasks that have to be mastered and challenges that we all have to overcome.
