Synopsis/Details
BLISS is a tight, mysterious drama co-written by writer/director Garrett Adams and myself (Paul Knauer).
It's a methodically-unfolding mystery, winding the audience through the actions of a father attempting to cope with painful events (his wife's death/his daughter's advancing illness.)
Garrett and I have worked together for several years now on different projects--having first met when he directed one of my shorts (a personal favorite) SANCTUARY, which is now making its way through the festival circuit. Garrett's work on SANCTUARY, which debuted recently at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, was exemplary. So, when he approached me about co-writing a short, I jumped at the opportunity.
The original plan was for Garrett to direct the short, but his attention is now focused on directing his first feature film. (More news to come!)
BLISS is written for ease of shooting, with a director's eye. There are three basic locations: interior cabin, exterior on a lake, and interior garage/tool shed. The cast consists of only two characters--a father and his daughter. (Ages are noted in the script, but the story allows for easy adjustment, based on available actors.)
This is a great project for a director/team at any level, but works especially well for a team looking for a project that could make an impact on the festival circuit. As a bonus, you'll have access to both Garrett and myself for consultation on shooting/directing/re-writing/festivals. (No, I didn't ask Garrett before I said that...but, I'm committing him anyway!) :)
