Synopsis/Details
This tight little 5-page thriller (with slight horror elements) is written to be a one-day shoot. Set entirely in a suburban home, and with a cast of two (not including one line of VO), PLAYING CARS is a great low-cost project for any team looking for a quick addition to their portfolio. Ashley is a woman in distress. It's been almost 3 months since her little boy disappeared. The police have her husband in custody, but with no leads, there's no real hope of finding her son alive. Today is a particularly tough day, as it's her son's 9th birthday. When Ashley decides to rewrap her son's ungifted Christmas present as a birthday gift, something strange happens: the present (a remote control car) springs into action. For Ashley, it leads to answers. But, are those answers forcing her to face a truth she already knows? Or, is this the end of her months-long mystery? Either way, she'll need to answer one question: a question she probably heard a hundred times before, but never expected today.

The Writer: Paul Knauer

I’m an optioned screenwriter working out of the Kansas City area with a thriller feature currently in pre-production. My main focus is feature writing--thrillers and slightly absurdist comedy with heart. But, I believe becoming a better writer requires pushing personal boundaries, so you’ll notice a thorough mix of genres in my portfolio of shorts. Much of my work has global appeal, evidenced by successful productions (multiple festival award winning shorts) in the UK, UAE and US--along with options in Australia, Russia, India, Canada and Thailand. Born and raised in St. Louis, I’ve lived in multiple small towns around Missouri, and now Kansas. My projects often center on life in the… Go to bio
