Synopsis/Details
The story opens with a shocking act of violence: a priest is murdered in a confessional booth. The killer, Brendan, leaves behind a newspaper clipping revealing the priest was found not guilty of child molestation. We are immediately introduced to Brendan's vigilante mission, which he justifies in a chilling voice-over. We then see him murder a woman, also implicated in the priest's crimes. The scene is cold and methodical, establishing Brendan's unsettling nature. The police investigation begins, but we, the audience, are already a step ahead, witnessing the killer's perspective. The film then flashes back to Brendan's childhood, a time when he was subjected to horrific religious and sexual abuse by his parents. These early flashbacks are integral to understanding the source of his profound trauma. The middle of the film delves deeper into Brendan's past. The flashbacks become more detailed and disturbing, revealing the full extent of his parents' fanaticism and the abuse he endured in the name of God. We learn that as a teenager, Brendan, driven by a newfound understanding of the Bible, turned the tables on his parents, murdering them in a brutal act of vengeance. The narrative cuts between his present-day killings and his past, showing how his current actions are a direct result of his unhealed trauma. He’s shown killing various "sinners" he believes have escaped justice, with each murder reflecting a piece of his past pain.
