Synopsis/Details
Carol is looking for a new start. While recovering from a nervous breakdown in a New York City psychiatric facility she fell in love with and was impregnated by her nurse Harlon. They married, but tragedy soon struck – after being attacked by a burglar Carol miscarried. Now Carol is pregnant again and she and Harlon are relocating to the small Ohio town where Harlon grew up. Unfortunately for Carol this new beginning is doomed. Harlon is a bisexual narcissist who orchestrated the attack on Carol in a plot to get his hands on her millions.
Harlon’s next scheme is to drive Carol insane and have her committed to a mental institution so he can become trustee of her estate. His plan incorporates the use of motion sensor activated audio recordings and video projections depicting infants in distress to capitalize on Carol’s fear of another miscarriage – along with doses of the hallucinogen mescaline.
Harlon’s accomplice and secret lover Troy assists with the plot. Troy is the son of the original owners of the Ohio house Carol and Harlon move into. Troy and Harlon were boyhood friends before Troy was sent to prison as a teenager for murdering Harlon’s sister – whom it is revealed Harlon had an incestuous relationship with.
Unbeknownst to Carol the house she now occupies was a former funeral home with an embalming room in the basement where Troy’s mother also performed illegal abortions – discarding the fetuses in a defunct well known as “the pit”.
Now these soulless fetuses in the pit are stirring and they’re out for vengeance. According to a psychic Carol befriends, “They wanna rip you up and suck the life out of you. Just like what happened to them.”
While Harlon and Troy employ their high-tech tactics intended to drive Carol over the edge the fetus phantasms are murdering any innocent victims who unknowingly invade their domain.
After struggling to maintain her sanity Carol eventually reaches her breaking point and exacts a gruesome revenge on her tormentors in the basement embalming room.
