Synopsis/Details
Mason Wilder, a blue-collar screw-up, is barely holding it together with his sarcastic humor and self-destructive habits. After the sudden death of his rich, judgmental mother-in-law, Seraphina Mondragón, Mason learns he’s been left her entire $50 million fortune—under one condition: he must give up all his vices (smoking, drinking, gambling, junk food, etc.) and live a virtuous life for one full year, or the money goes to her dog, Tootsie.
Initially viewing it as a con, Mason pretends to find faith, enlisting his dysfunctional family’s help to pull off a holy makeover. But as Hartman, the estate’s cold and calculating executor, keeps tabs on his every move, and as real challenges test his ability to change, Mason begins to stumble toward actual growth. Meanwhile, his daughter Elizebeth gets caught in a shady business deal, and his wife Birdie pleads for the change to be genuine.
As the fake faith journey spirals into real reflection, the comedy deepens into something more emotionally resonant. In the end, Mason might not just win the money—he might win back his family’s respect, and maybe even his own.
