Synopsis/Details
ABRAHAM WINSLOW (Abe), late 60's, an old notorious outlaw, enters the town Matibo in the Arizona frontier. He visits his daughter he hasn't seen in twenty years who shows hostility to him. He tries to give her and his grandson money which she declines. While staying that night at a hotel, HANK, early 50's, town sheriff, and his deputy capture Abe and put him in jail. A verdict's made to hang him for killing a past sheriff of Matibo twenty years ago. The town reverend, MICHAEL, late 40's, compassionate, develops a relationship with Abe and makes an assessment that Abe's a wretched old man now. After debate, Abe's let off the hook. While Abe performs town chores as a stipulation for his release, Michael gets to know him better. Abe gains trust from Hank when he saves the town deputy from being killed by a clan of bandits run by TEDDY, early 40's, robust. They've been ravaging the town by robbing them of their goods and crops supply on a regular basis. Abe proposes a plan to scare them so they'll leave the town alone, which they do and well. The bandits leave town and appear to no longer want anything to do with it. Michael pierces Abe's shield and teaches him that every man has a soul. Abe opens up to him about his dark past of how he scalped Indians and burned them alive when he was young at the expense of them killing his brother. Teddy and his clan return to Matibo in full force. They set the town in flames, kill innocent bystanders, and rape women. Teddy has Abe tied up and burned alive before he leaves. The town deputy pulls Abe from the fire before the flames consume him. Hank and some town folks embark into the frontier to hunt down Teddy and his clan who've kidnapped some of their town's women after their riot. Hank leaves a recovering Abe responsible for looking after the town while he's gone. After months of searching, Abe heals. Teddy outsmarts Hank by leading him on a goose chase and enters back into Matibo. Abe confronts them with a rifle, handgun, and moderate backup from ordinary town folks. In a big showdown, Abe and his backup wipe out the clan and lose their own lives in the process. Abe in his last words gives his grandson the whereabouts of a stash of gold he buried while entering Matibo to retrieve and use to rebuild it.
