SOPHIE BOROFF, mid 20's, a bush-league journalist living in her mom's basement, all in one day receives a mysterious object from an unverified sender, has a 4-year-old stranger foreigner boy appear in her locked basement, and learns the world president RICHARD REED, late 50's, is her father. Richard hopes to bring Sophie into his elitist group resembling the illuminati, called the organization, at the brink of passing bill 926 that forces all citizens to have computer chips implanted in them. He offers her privilege in hoped return of positive coverage from her niche media influence. But when Sophie strikes him with a vase after he makes an advance on her, she's imprisoned where she meets ELIJAH BERMAN, mid 40's, government secretary of science. He reveals he sent her a portal, which is what the mysterious object she received is and how the boy appeared, to keep it away from the government who's been interrogating him to find it. Sophie, Elijah, and the boy escape through the portal into the outer region, a place outside the government's jurisdiction, where they take refuge at the boy's father's home after being pursued by a foreign militia who possess the other side of the portal. Motivated to have Richard removed for working with a foreign adversary, they breach the region's firewall with the help of a technophile named HAWO, early 30's, to get in touch with Richard's political opponent. But Hawo with his own motives, steals the portal switch from them and orders their execution which they escape, only to be captured by the foreign militia who were tipped off by Richard's opponent, who's revealed as also being a member of the organization. After retrieving the portal switch from Hawo, the foreign militia takes the one world hostage by staging a powerful bomb in the world bank concourse with the intent of imposing their beliefs there. Hawo leads a mercenary unit to execute the remaining militia guarding the portal in the outer region and sends Sophie and his guard to retrieve the portal for him in the one world region. As things heat up, Richard's superior replaces him with his opponent as president, unsatisfied with his actions, and accuses him through the media of planning the attack of the foreign militia. Richard, Sophie, and Elijah lure and trick Richard's superior into revealing to the world, through a secret video feed, the plan to stage the attack of the foreign militia so they could put the public into a state of fear to pass bill 926 to control them. A year passes and Elijah is made the new president. The ending showcases the first portal station where the boy, his father, and Elijah are the first to use a portal for commercial travel.
