Synopsis/Details
Inspired by Sheffield's real-life 'Women of Steel'.
Rose Barker is a typical war-time housewife until the day her husband leaves her with rent arrears, no income and a young son to care for. George English is sent back from the front line for reasons unknown. With the conscription of women into the city steelworks beginning, Rose and George’s paths cross with those of three other women; love-sick Connie Fuller, ever positive Marjorie Brown and the stiff upper-lipped Joan Beckett, in an environment that challenges both Rose and George’s attitudes towards the opposite sex.
Sparks fly from more than just molten metal as Rose attempts to solve her own personal issues whilst showing those around her that “things that aren’t built for the job can sometimes surprise you.”
