Synopsis/Details
Beth is a volunteer caregiver at a local old folks home. She has a favorite guest, Amy, an aging, bed ridden but sharp lady from a bygone era. This Sunday, Beth is collecting Toni, a nurse at the home, from her regular Sunday morning sermon. As usual, Toni is late, but today is Amy's birthday, so Beth is more than annoyed as she has to bathe and dress Amy, as well as safely place her into her wheelchair, ready for her birthday celebrations. Eventually, Beth and Toni arrive at the home. Amy is waiting, excited. A pair of pearl earrings are on her bed stand, along with a crucifix and a photograph of her and her husband, in full naval uniform. Beth has a bouquet of flowers and a birthday gift for Amy, who loves Beth like a daughter. As Beth assists Amy, they talk. Amy tells Beth that at one o'clock her husband, Joe, will be arriving to escort her from the room. Amy notices a couple of odd things about Beth, and by digging deeper, she has Beth sharing her life story. How her mother died from cancer when she was 12, how her father sexually abused her, how she is dealing with her divorce, and how she hates God. Amy tries to console Beth who is in tears, as she remembers painful times. Amy says that Beth should take the crucifix. Beth says she has no need for it, and in ten minutes, precisely at 1:00 pm, Beth learns that she WILL be using that crucifix on a daily basis, exactly as Amy predicted.

The Writer: Martin Cox

My name is Martin Cox and I am an Englishman, London born and bred but now a proud American citizen, domiciled in fabulous Las Vegas with my beautiful Asian wife Anita. Yes, I am very blessed!. I feel extremely humbled to join the Script Revolution and be in the company of so many talented writers. Since childhood, I have had a love affair with the written word, weaving copious amounts of rhyming tapestries, essays and plays for my fellow students to share and perform in. This was when I initially experienced the total intoxication of hearing others breath life into my written words. How wondrous the feeling. And I have been fortunate enough to prolong that addiction throughout the years… Go to bio
