Synopsis/Details
The story is about rules-obsessed retiree Clark, and his friend Hussein, who lose everything in a complicated con by a father/son duo.
Clark wants to put his faith in the justice system but he soon finds out that justice takes time—and as his wife Alice reminds him, they have an expiration date. They could live out their retirement in their kids' basements but that’s more of a nightmare than an option. They have to get their money back. And, at this point, they have zero fs left to give.
Their only hope is to team up with Fitz, an ex-con Hussein knows who says she can help them.
Clark’s granddaughter finds out about the scheme and insists on helping. It’s hard to keep secrets from a curious and determined teen, and her tech skills do help. Their son knows something is up when his parents sell everything and move into an RV with their friends.
But even though being underestimated is their super power, this con is a long shot. Bodhi, the narcissistic younger con artist they’re after, slowly spirals into megalomania. And Fitz might be trying to double cross them to pay off a huge debt to an even bigger and more dangerous crook.
That’s what they’re up against—it’s life-experience versus professional swindlers as they try to con the con artists.
All Accolades & Coverage
Bulletproof Script Coverage: Originality is one of the strongest aspects of Zero F’s, and the pages do a great job imbuing the story and world with unique details that make this script feel unlike most others in the niche revenge comedy genre. The strongest piece of originality, however, comes with the characters that are being focused on, and showing four friends who are “experienced” is unique while simultaneously adding empathy and relatability.
This contributes to a strong tone for the pages, a balance of comedy and pathos that hooks with readers on a deeper level and makes the comedy more engaging. The comedy is effective, particularly because it is more grounded and comes from character, which does not undermine the stakes at all.
