Hi, after a few years of no success I think I'm finally writing at a level I'm happy with. A script of mine Opal was a SF in the Gold Coast Film Festival 2022, got a BL 8, and was just optioned to a director. It's nice to get some positivity and some people are really digging the script, including a bunch of people on Reddit.
Just a note that no doubt others will come accross, there's also a small percentage of people who will dislike or even hate what you write, I definitely had one of those haha but that's fine, it's subjective and they are a very opinionated writer who has just started writing, I personally thought their writing wasn't very polished (I didn't tell them that), so I take it with a grain of salt. Just be prepared for at least one hater haha.
Nicholas, Congrats. And also 1000000% agree, it's all a matter of taste. One manager told me getting the production to come together is like "kicking water up hill." Not only do you have to find the team that's as excited about the project as you are, they have to have the availability etc etc etc. I had one person turn down my script Crazy Athol because it was "too farcical" which to me was a compliment. Besides, (cheese alert) I'm a huge believer that "NO" stands for "Next Opportunity." It turns out, the producer that joined my team is working on a Mel Brooks project. Farcical indeed.
So to all y'all out there: stay the course! And congrats to all the above successes on this thread!
My pilot just made the overall top 10% on Coverfly, (6%) something i've been hoping for for a while! I've been kind of a in a creative block recently so it feels good knowing my first script has merit while I try to work on something else.
Ride that wave, Lucy!!! That's amazing, especially for your first script. Send those queries, use that nugget!!! That confidence boost is validating. If you read a variety of other projects, you will see why yours is set apart and great while others are not (that sounds snobbish, but it's true!).
I'm trying to strike hard too as we are in the "please give me $6 million" phase of development. The project just went up to 5% for all projects / 4% for comedy so I'm hoping that helps. We got the cast and crew and a private investor willing to match up to $3mm, but we just have to find that first $3mm. Unrelated, has anyone found my $3mm bill in their couch cushions?

Congrats, Lucy. Hope it leads to some reads from the industry.
That's great, Lucy! Sometimes a little good news can go a long way, especially when you're in a creative slump.
Grats Lucy!
