Synopsis/Details
"Justifiable Beating" follows the intertwined lives of Monica, a beautiful, intelligent high school virgin initially hesitant about prom, and Craig, a seemingly chivalrous young man who defends her from an aggressive suitor. Their high school romance blossoms into marriage, but Craig's unfulfilled NBA dreams and a hidden alcoholic tendency transform him into a violent abuser. Monica, once vibrant, becomes a shadow of her former self, enduring beatings and even suffering a miscarriage due to his rage. Her best friend, Deena, a strong and fiercely loyal woman who has her own past with domestic violence, watches Monica's decline with growing concern and a burning desire for justice. The narrative delves deep into Monica's internal struggle with denial and her desperate attempts to cling to the man she once loved, contrasting it with Deena's unwavering resolve to protect her friend, even if it means taking matters into her own hands. Teenage Monica is reluctant to attend prom but is convinced by her best friend Deena and her mother, Gwen. At prom, she is harassed by Teenage Jason, but Teenage Craig intervenes, establishing himself as a protector. Monica and Craig begin a relationship that leads to marriage. Five months into their marriage, Monica is pregnant. Craig, frustrated by his failed NBA dreams and fueled by alcohol, becomes abusive. He backhands Monica, causing her to fall down the stairs and suffer a miscarriage. Monica initially covers for him, but Deena, seeing Monica's physical and emotional scars, reveals her own past with domestic violence, urging Monica to leave. Craig continues his abusive behavior, culminating in him admitting to infidelity and threatening Monica's life. Monica, finally empowered, confronts Craig and attempts to leave him. In a final, brutal act of violence, Craig fatally hits Monica, causing her to break her neck and die. Deena arrives moments later to find Monica's body. Driven by grief and a deep sense of betrayal, Deena tracks Craig to a bar, confronts him about his actions, and executes him, delivering a "justifiable beating" for Monica's murder. She then calmly waits for the police.
