Synopsis/Details
An aluminum boat beaches on an isolated, rocky coast and Sarah, a young woman with a hand held radio receiver, and Dermott, an athletic man with a boar spear, follow their radio-collared pig dog, Max, into the bush. Dermot claims they’ve found a hunter’s paradise as no one’s stepped foot on the island since the shipwreck five-hundred years ago. Sarah is less enthusiastic as the natives avoid it like the plague and speak of great black beasts. According to Dermott, these are simply descendants of the pigs aboard the ship that reverted to their wild state after just a few generations in the wild. He notes the similarities between pigs and man. The signal lights on Sarah’s receiver are all lit up, and they should be able to hear Max. Instead, a dark, hairy beast on all fours flashes across the path in front of them. They give chase but discover a bloody Max lying motionless atop a patch of thick grass in a clearing. As Sarah reaches for her dog, the pit trap gives way beneath their feet. For Dermott it doesn’t make sense as no one’s stepped foot on the island since the crew. They look up in terror as dark shadows pass over the pit.
