Synopsis/Details
Recently optioned to a Hollywood Production Company and is in pre-production. In summer, the serene coastal town of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is plunged into chaos as flocks of birds inexplicably turn violent, launching relentless attacks on residents and visitors alike. Lena, a resilient ornithologist, is thrust into survival mode as she witnesses the terrifying transformation of her feathered subjects. Joining her in the fight are Alex Ramirez, a marine biologist, and Maria, a college student who narrowly escapes a deadly assault on her father’s restaurant. As the trio barricades themselves in Lena's beachfront home, they face wave after wave of ferocious bird attacks. Armed with a stockpile of weapons from Lena's late husband, a former police detective, they struggle to fortify their home against the relentless pecking and chipping away at their defenses. Tensions rise and bonds strengthen as Lena, Alex, and Maria confront their fears and the horror unfolding outside. The sky darkens with flocks of aggressive birds, creating an atmosphere of Hitchcockian suspense. Their ordeal intensifies when a flight attempting to land at Myrtle Beach International Airport is swarmed by birds, leading to a catastrophic emergency landing and a subsequent explosion that rocks the terminal. Amid the chaos, Lena's home becomes the focal point of the birds' fury. The first-floor barricades start to give way, forcing Lena upstairs where she is viciously attacked and left unconscious. Alex's desperate efforts to rescue her and reinforce their defenses are a harrowing battle for survival. As they fight to stay alive, the trio must unravel the mystery behind the birds' sudden aggression. With no clear cause or solution, the ambiguous ending leaves them and the readers in a state of eerie uncertainty, mirroring the unsettling atmosphere of the original classic. In "The Birds Return," nature’s unpredictability and human resilience clash in a suspenseful tale of survival against an inexplicable avian terror.

The Writer: Gary Rose

I’m an optioned screenwriter who, in a previous life, served as a police detective, mastering the delicate art of negotiating hostage situations. Retirement led me down a different path—teaching and writing—a journey that began with my first non-fiction book, which became an Amazon best-seller. That success ignited my passion for storytelling and introduced the world to my indomitable protagonist, FBI agent Jeannie Loomis. Believing that the ends justify the means, Jeannie has become the heart of a gripping 16-novel thriller series. My historical fiction script The Beautiful Beast was selected as a quarter-finalist in the 2025 PAGE competition. The Phantom Train script was selected in 2024… Go to bio
