Synopsis/Details
Ben is a successful writer of low budget blood soaked horror movies, and is in regular contact with his supportive and flirtatious agent, Glenda. But he feels unfulfilled with his current situation, as a writer and as a human being. He decides to leave his comfort zone by writing about a relationship between an older man (similar to himself) who falls for a much younger woman.
Against her better judgement his agent agrees to find a producer for his script.. It’s decided the best thing to do is workshop the screenplay with actors to solve any shortcomings. Enter Selena for the role of the young woman. Ben is immediately attracted to her and decides to play the male lead role.
As they workshop during the days and talk in the evenings, Ben’s attraction for Selena persists, while Selena remains seemingly oblivious.
We are also introduced to Ben’s conscience and comic foil, Graham, the ghost of his gay best friend who appears sporadically to comment on what’s going on and tease Ben about his actions.
Meanwhile Ben’s wife, Amanda is at home, depressed with her failing relationship and motiveless days. She is cajoled by her best friend Joanna to get herself back on track.
Selena is performing in a play during the evenings and soon becomes enamoured of her handsome and charming co-star Frederico. She persuades her agent, Frank, who is also Glenda’s business partner, to take him on as a client. Frederico is soon asked to take over the male lead from Ben when a film producer requests a reading of Ben’s screenplay.
It becomes clear that Selena’s relationship with Frederico is more than friendly but Ben chooses to ignore the signs.
As the making of the film becomes closer to a reality, Selena is dropped as the female lead and Frederico is now on board as the male lead. Ben has to tell Selena she is no longer part of the project, and awkwardly professes his feelings for her. Her reaction is not the one he had hoped for.
