Gettin' to knoowwww you...

So after the 33rd prompt to setup Microsoft OneDrive I finally broke down and did that... figured "hey, could always use another backup right?" Before noticing there were a couple documents I wasn't really comfortable with up in the cloud... which led to, "nah don't really want this after all" so I delete everything off the OneDrive online only to discover not only do changes from computer save to the OneDrive CHANGES FROM THE ONEDRIVE SAVE TO THE COMPUTER(!) so I got to watch my whole laptop dump into the recycle bin, which also permanently deleted all my folders.
After reorganizing everything I noticed files could no longer be opened from the desktop for some reason (still could from inside new folders) and who knows what else so spent a few more hours reinstalling windows, firmware updates, files from backup discs, etc.
Quill pens n' wax seals...
Shit!! And your script software? I know what I'm not going to be doing. Not load OneDrive!
Luckily I use online scriptwriting services (WriterDuet & Celtx) atm.
Is there no recovery option? Dropbox allows you to recover deleted files for a certain time period.
Who am I kidding? It's Microshaft. Such a feature would probably format your machine every time you connnected.
Cloud stuff certainly has a learning curve to it. I'm on iCloud now because I got pissy about Dropbox doubling their prices. That now means I can't sync on Scrivener between desktop and mobile.
Don't even start me on the complexities of keeping this site backed up.
The most notable event that happened to me recently is receiving mail from a new business mail forwarding service I use. They sent the first bit of post wrapping in a plastic envelope and, for the first time in my life, I managed to cut myself opening it. I drew blood. Inside there was a free gift. It was a letter opener.
CJ - There was no recovery option because "windows 10 had been installed x days ago (too long?)". Not sure what that has to do with anything (vague) but whatever...wouldn't surprise me if they were charging for such remote now if that's what they're doing. blah!
cause there was def a recovery option on windows 7 I used once.
and paper/those cuts are THE WORST (maybe not the worst but pretty bad). Commiserating lol on letter opener!

Oh everyone feel free to post your stuff in this thread as well, this one ain't just about me! lol
I've been thinking lately about what I'd do if I were a Russian Tsar more than usual (any) in certain situations due to present media consumption. lol I might actually get a wax-seal stamp set when I can justify more $ for trivialities. Honestly I think the wedding invites that do that are (a little) cheesy (do you there tho ((within reason)) it's your day!) but they might be nice for Holiday letters or something.
Inside there was a free gift. It was a letter opener. ~ They should have added a band-aid. :)
CJ, Is it possible for you to add emojes :) (Spelling?) to your forum site? It be cool.
Derek, I'd wager that at least one screenwriter has sent out a historical script enveloped in parchment and stamped with wax, probably flown in via a raven or something in a bid to standout.
CJ - I bet you're right! There might even be an over/under line possible on that subject. LOL
I won $8 on Mega Millions today.
I’ve been in IT for the last 25 years and I’ve never liked MS for various reasons but mostly because their stuff seems to be about 80% ready for prime time and the remaining 20% is in beta, and it’s usually the stuff you need working 100% that breaks; then there’s licensing. Don’t even get me started on that. They aren’t called the evil empire for nothing.
In case you’re curious, pCloud is a good option for cloud storage 2tb for USD 350 for life ( https://www.pcloud.com/cloud-storage-pricing-plans.html) . You can sync folders or not. It is a mapped drive so you won’t run into that problem of your C drive filling up and running out of space because you just added 400gigs of pictures. It comes with 30 days of trash history, which I’ve used occasionally. Overall, I’m happy with it.
I’m running Ubuntu Linux, and use Fade In, and Scrivener, all my files are on pCloud but I also have a backup of my screenplay stuff, using BorgBackup to another cloud provider called rysnc.net every 3 hours, and from there I also copy that data to wasabi.com at the end of the day.
Overkill? To some sure, but i’ll never have an issue of lost data.
Just an FYI. Wasabi is object storage - USD 6/1Tb/month - much cheaper than Amazon S3. I use it for “archival” type storage, and pCloud is stuff that I generally use or need access to on a fairly regular basis.
Thanks Xavier. I may have just reached the point where I'm set in my tech ways. When I deposit check(s) in the bank I sometimes get "You can do that now with the machine out front if you don't wanna wait for..." but this way I'm not worried about how long I take with someone behind me and I know you're not gonna eat my check without giving the $ (well hopefully not anyway cause that would be something lol)
Well, I got t-boned in an intersection by a new driver who accidently hit the gas instead of the brake @ their red light... but other than a couple minor-cuts and stiff/soreness I'm still a kickin' and no one's wearin' my foot on a necklace atm! lol Car is totaled tho.
Other driver is fine too.
Getting "T" boned is a serious accident. Not expecting the sudden jolt. SEE THE DOCTOR! Don't be alone. Do not hesitate to go to the ER if your begin having a hard time breathing. Listen to your body. The soreness is your body's way of saying it didn't like it either. LOL
Thank ya Tony!
Yikes. Glad you're okay, Derek. I once suffered pedal confusion while reversing and drove through my mother in law's garage.
However, did the other driver recognise you from Prefontaine and simply crash into you in the hope of getting an autograph?
Thanks CJ! Coincidentally once many years ago I accidently "parked" a car in neutral inside dark garage and watched it start rolling backwards, would have smashed through my parents' garage door if it hadn't still been open lol. Luckily car stopped on a curb long enough for me to get back in & start it. These days I don't think you can even remove key in neutral w/ most cars.
Other driver did not mention my Prefontaine celebrity, but I feel they may have been too young to fully appreciate that classic era of cinema.
I dunno. Maybe the kids are back into that kind of thing. I'd check the wreckage to see if she stole any of your clothing to sell on Craigslist.
New cars are pretty locked off now. While on the set of Break Even, I thought I'd be really cool by hopping in the 5.0 Mustang we had on set and flooring that bad boy in front of the crew. Image my sad face when it hit the limiter at about 3,000rpm and I was just sitting there with a mild droning sound coming from the bonnet.
lol, at least you were spared the indignity of a "womp womp" sound.
Last week while waiting for a traffic light to change, a young man in his twenties walked past me on the median. He carried a small handwritten sign which read, "LIFE SUCKS, I NEED A BEER." I didn't give him any money, but I had to smile at his honesty.
Hey John. Ya know "they" say acting and begging have many similarities. Some would say there is no difference. Further,I often think how I could package it better. Before I begged, as Capt. of Truck 26, I would order my candidates to the weight room to work out, specifically working on the fore arms. I then gave them an empty boot, tight shirt and ordered them into moving traffic. Am I wrong? LOL.
^^Yes, I guess acting, begging and con artists (both long and short cons) are all in the same family.
Might actually have a pen run out of ink soon before my losing/breaking/switching it.
Just uploaded my latest (20) page short: ON THE BEACH, "A young couple do what they must to escape a lingering death on a remote desert planet." Threw in a few meta tags to see what might happen?
I'm going to start checking the expiration dates on fast-food mayo packets, yikes.
All the comments about car mishaps gave me a Ferris Bueller's Day Off moment. Loved that scene.
Having a burger today at Sally’s Diner in Casselberry, Florida, I looked over and saw a heavy set young lady seated in a booth. She was holding a towel to her face and crying. Two waitresses were in attendance and comforting her.
The woman had slipped and fallen hard (outside the diner). Seems she was holding keys in her hand when she fell. The keys pierced her cheek and were dangling from the side of her face.
Several teams of EMTs arrived, the keys were stabilized and she was transported. I think the keys were lodged in her sinus cavity just below her eye socket?
Now IF I had written this in a script, no one would have ever believed it possible.
...

I dunno. I can see that working as a 6 Feet Under opener - but they'd have to go all the. way in... Sorry to be gross
(My favourite one was the guy hit by falling "blue ice" ie from a plane toilet)
