Synopsis/Details
In 1599 Wm. Kempe's wittering and tom-foolery causes pandemonium at the opening of Henry V in the new Globe Theatre on the south bank of the River Thames.
In 1603 the country mourns the death of their beloved Queen, Elizabeth I. She is given a magnificent funeral. Her successor, James VI of Scotland, in a sumptuous Coronation is crowned King James I of England. Plague descends on London. Theatres are closed and the Players dispersed. Shakespeare takes Rowley to Stratford, where Rowley's play The Birth of merlin is seized, and he is imprisoned accused of being a Jesuit priest. Shakespeare, with his daughter Judith's help rescues Rowley. A trial is held where Shakespeare out-witters Robert Cecil and Rowley is exonerated. The King's Men perform The Birth of Merlin at the King's Gala to great success.
