In London on the night of December 1598 the Lord Chamberlain's Men dismantle their old theatre situated north of the River Thames.
14 year old William Rowley is in charge of the horses that pull the skids laden with beams down to the river where a barge will float the saved beams across the Thames to the south bank to be used to build a new theatre, The Globe.
William Shakespeare and William Kempe, both Lord Chamberlain's Men, in order to protect the beams and young Rowley, accompany him down to the river.
Rowley informs them he wants to be an actor clown like Kempe and write plays like Shakespeare.
