Synopsis/Details
This is a 7 x 30 minute TV sitcom. Please note all 7 episode scripts are in the pdf.
This is a classic prime time family friendly sitcom, with fast banter, credible characters and situations. It’s fast paced like the classic Eric Chappell scripts. The number of sets is kept to a minimum to keep costs low. The story lines are strong and the characters quickly develop. There is potential for more episodes.
Charles King (think Archie Glover) is a wealthy do-gooder. He owns the local biscuit factory. He runs a charity group all the members of which are his family except Roy Green (think Figgis), a fork lift driver / union rep from his factory. The rest of the group are; his wife (Bee), sister (Fran), brother in law (Joe), wife’s sister (Polly) and two junior managers from the factory (Bill and Judith). They all have their character flaws and hidden agendas.
Ep.1 – The group meets in the classiest hotel in town. One night Charles rubbishes everyone’s ideas. Roy rebels and threatens to start his own group. The others are just as fed up as Roy and secretly join Roy’s breakaway group.
Ep. 2 - The breakaway group (Royal Order of Bisons) meet at the seediest pub in town with a skimming landlord and dodgy clientele. Charles isn’t invited and feels left out so he blags his way into the meeting. He eventually is allowed to join as Roy’s deputy. Also allowed to join is a dosser that drinks in the pub (Kempy), a move they all hate (except Roy).
Ep. 3 – Roy holds a brainstorming session for new money raising projects which ends in disaster as tempers rise and hidden agendas surface. Joe gets drunk and storms out. Polly is sent to check he’s okay. Joe and Polly wind up making love in Joe’s car as it sinks into the duck pond opposite the Bison. Rows and recriminations inevitably follow.
Ep.4 - Roy brings in a specialist charity worker to give a lecture. He turns out to be a tramp giving advice on where and how to beg in the town. He fleeces the group for cash, free food and booze before eventually being thrown out.
Ep.5 – Roy and Charles go head to head in union negotiations. They inadvertently wind up committed to a cage fight for charity to settle their disagreement. The ‘cage’ is a rubbish cart used at the factory. It ends in disaster when, mid contest, the two pugilists are driven to the local dump by accident.
Ep.6 – A charismatic new man turns up in town trying to amalgamate all the charities, channelling their funds through him. Roy invites him to a Bisons meeting. It turns out Charles, Bee, Fran and Joe have crossed the stranger’s path in the past. All were conned by him in one way or another. Roy is sweet talked by the stranger into giving all the charity’s funds to him but at the last minute Kempy (who once shared a cell with the conman) saves the day.
Ep.7 – Kempy is a glutton for pork pies. Desperate for money raising ideas Roy decides to hold a pie eating contest, Kempy taking on all comers. Charles persuades Bragg, a boaster who owns the local pie factory, to sponsor the event and supply free pies. Kempy goes ill and Charles has to step in at the last minute. Charles insults Bragg who challenges him to a man-to-man eat off. Just before the contest starts Roy discovers Heap has stolen the fresh pies, substituting his old out of code toxic ones in their place. Roy tells Charles just as the contest starts. Bragg stuffs down the pies and rushes off stage to be ill, followed closely by a local news crew. Charles doesn’t eat anything and wins by default. The Bisons have at last made some money, so Charles, to the dismay of all, proposes a biscuit eating re-match.
