TheBlackList on Melvin:
"This pilot's greatest strength is its bizarre tone. It allows for just about anything to happen without it being too jarring. Action is actually written very well, especially for a comedy. It's easy to follow exactly what's going on, and it's a lot of fun. The running TLC gags work well, and the callback is a solid button to the pilot. The scene where all the characters are talking on the phones in separate conversations at the same time actually really works. New York as a setting is captured well and is utilized, as opposed to being a generic backdrop. Formatting is near perfect and up to industry standards."
