The BlackList on Worlds Apart:
The strongest aspect of this script is the premise itself. This is a grounded and realistic way in to a science fiction political thriller. The world of the story is well defined and the writer has clearly done a lot of work creating a backstory and mythos to the [alien] civilization. Each and every character in this script is well developed with their own individual wants, needs, goals, and point of view. The budding romance between George and Zort'A is a wonderful way to get audiences invested in their journey. The writer does a brilliant job at bringing these characters to life through lively and entertaining dialogue. Zachary's dialogue in particular makes for some lively and entertaining moments. The pilot story is well structured and sets up the series going forward in a way that will make audiences want to see what happens next.
Score: 7
BlueCat on Worlds Apart:
“Worlds Apart” is a quickly paced science fiction comedy with clearly written characters in an interesting scenario. Descriptions are ably crafted and keep the action relevant to the storytelling, particularly with regard to the non-English scenes showing the alien guys discussing and plotting. The visual storytelling works well in these scenes.
The overall concept is a lot of fun: an alien race makes first contact and establishes diplomatic relations with Earth, but neither race fully trusts the other, and for good reason. The idea of having the UN as an organization engaging in incompetent nepotism is a compelling parody and helps set the stage for ironic and awkward situations.
Austin Film Festival:
The writing is very visual and the planet of Jagmir is immersive with a very distinct culture, unique creatures, and interesting customs. A subplot reveals a potential romance blossoming between George and Zort’a that promises to be entertaining. The dialogue is natural, believable, and individual to each character. The overall story is entertaining and the humor is fitting for the story and the characters. WORLDS APART is an entertaining study in human and alien relations should Earth find itself in contact with a species from another planet.
