THE SCREENPLAY After we have witnessed three murders the police draw a blank. Then we jump 32 YEARS to a cemetery, STEVE (57) looks at the three victims graves. JACKSON (72) a former detective on the case visits his old police station. Detectives BRIAN(30) ROY(35) talk off the Torso Murder Case. Steve visits a bookshop, and buys a book on screen writing. The owner mentions a screen writing competition. The next day Jackson and Steve pass each other in the cemetery saying good morning. Steve begins writing The Torso Murders, in a flashback we see STEVE (25) with a torso. Steve visits the three houses where the murders took place. He speaks to a woman who knows nothing about it. Jackson also visits the same three houses, he learns off Steve’s visit. From the description he makes the connection to the guy in the cemetery Steve. In a coffee shop Jackson meets a friend PETE(60) Pete informs him he’ll be reading the thrillers in the screen writing competition next month. At Pete’s office he begins reading The Torso Murders. The reading is seen in live action, punctuated by Pete’s comments in V.O. Also Other scenes. After the murders, he realises “you couldn’t make it up”. At the coffee shop he informs Jackson about the screenplay, and the murders. Jackson says he worked on “The Torso Murders case”. Jackson confronts Steve in the cemetery, after seeing him visit the three graves. He tells him the case is under review. Jackson begins reading the script in live action, with comments in(V.O.) Pete is back reading the script. After three murders the police decide to use a decoy. They use a police officer as a school girl. Before the girl comes home the killer has hidden in the loft. As the police search the house, he jumps out the loft with a rope around his neck. Pete (V.O.)”Wow what an ending”. At the coffee shop Pete and Jackson discuss the screenplay. Pete “it should make the quarter finals”. In the evidence box at the police station, are some fibres and hair samples. Jackson follows Steve to a hair dressers, and gets a sample of his hair. There is a D.N.A. Match. When the police go to arrest him he jumps out of the loft, just like in the screenplay. At the coffee shop Pete informs Jackson The Torso Murders is on release next year. Jackson and Pete are seen in the que at the cinema. Jackson “I hope there are no copy cat murders” At a detached house a man is seen leaving with a suitcase. Then there is the ROAR OF JET ENGINES, they fade away FOLLOWED BY A BLOOD CURDLING SCREAM.
