THE VOID (SYNOPSIS)
In a pub Paul, Roy, and Dave (Mid Thirties) talk about murder. Dave has a cheating wife. At Dave’s house a woman exits the main door watched by Dave. An old lady in a wheel chair watches her exit the house. Dave’s wife Jane (35) is sprawled naked and dead on a bed. 48 hours later Dave reports her missing. The police arrive they interview Dave, and take away some of Jane’s possessions.
At the pub Dave tells Paul, and Roy Jane walked out and never came back. The police learn from door to door the old lady in a wheel chair saw what she thought was Dave’s wife leave the house. In the high street 22 years later at an architects office. John(35) and James(45) discuss John’s move into what turns out to be Dave’s old house. In the pub Paul, and Roy note Dave’s old house has been sold again.
Dave and Caroline(55) are seated in a garden. Dave is day dreaming. It’s 22 years since Jane disappeared. FLASHBACK we see Jane’s murder. Caroline leaves the garden to go to the store. At Dave’s old house John and wife Kay (35), and there two children Shane (10) and Charlotte (8) are moving in. An old lady next door tells John about Jane’s disappearance. Caroline returns from the store.
FLASHBACK Dave starts building a void. At the office John mentions to James what the old lady said. FLASHBACK Dave is building the studwork. John and Kay at dinner Kay mentions about removing the wall to make a kitchen/dinner. FLASHBACK Dave has finished the studwork. John Takes some measurements, and is puzzled by what he finds. FLASHBACK The plasterboard is nearly finished, Dave places a naked Jane in the void.
Then he packs it with insulation. At the office John discusses knocking out the wall, and mentions the measurements. FLASHBACK Dave finishes off the wall papering. At dinner John and Kay talk about the wall. In daylight Dave is outside his old house looking at it from his car. John attacks the wall with a sledge hammer, discovering the void. At the pub he meets up with Paul, and Roy. Back at his old house at night Dave watches the lights go out.
John and Kay are asleep, with John stirring. Dave enters through the main door. He Makes his way to the dinning room discovering the exposed void. He panics pulling out part of the insulation, then he quickly replaces it. John is stirring with eyelids fluttering. C.G.I. Jane’s mummified corpse emerges from the plaster board, she looks at Dave then dissolves away. John suddenly awakes hearing A THUD, he rushes out of the room.
Dave sees a light come on in the hall. He hides behind the curtains as John enters the room. John puts on the light taking a look around, then exits the room. He puts the chain on the main door. Dave exits the dinning room. Dave and Caroline are in bed he tells her about his trip. In John’s kitchen a sledge hammer comes through the wall. In the dinning room the wall can now be seen down. (O.S). Kay says “ You left the chain of the door again” Dave Deny’s it. Dave pulls out some insulation, and discovers Jane’s mummified corpse.
Kay arrives home to police cars outside her home, and Detective William’s with a detective EDWARDS (30) inside. Along with forensic workers, and Jane’s corpse in a body bag on a trolley. That night Dave and Caroline are watching TV. Dave’s former house can be seen on the screen. Announcer “ Today police recovered the mummified body of a woman from a house. It’s believed she has been missing for twenty two years. A full scale murder hunt is underway.”
Sharon (55) is watching TV Dave’s former house can be seen on the screen. Announcer “ Today police recovered the mummified body of s woman from a house. It’s believed she has been missing for twenty two years. A full scale murder hunt is underway” Sharon “ I know that house”. FLASHBACK A young Sharon meets Dave in a cafe. He offers her £250 to be seen leaving his house in an amateur film. She takes up the offer. FLASHBACK. Dave makes sure the old lady over the road sees her leave. FLASHBACK Sharon leaves the house.
At the police station William’s retrieves the cold case belongings of Jane for D.N.A. In the mortuary we see Jane’s mummified corpse, it’s revealed she died of strangulation. In the pub Paul and Roy discuss Jane being found. At the police station the D.N.A results confirm the mummified corpse is Jane’s. John is taking down the remaining stud work. Dave is arrested, Caroline watches as he is led away. At the police station, Dave tells detectives Jane must have moved in after he left with her boyfriend, and he killed her.
Then the detectives bring in Sharon, who tells Dave “we met in a cafe twenty two years ago, you gave me two hundred and fifty pounds to be in a film. I had to walk out of your house, in what I now know to be your wife’s coat “. John, Kay, and family enjoy a meal in their new kitchen/dinner. In the cemetery Jane’s grave can be seen. At John and Kay’s house dark clouds are forming overhead. A light mist swirls around. C.G.I. The ghostly figure of Jane appears she glides up the drive, and through the main door.
